would a 467John Deere Baler bee kind of big for my ford 8n?
My 8n is a deisel
I don’t know if the 467 baler is a sq or round bale baler, but if it’s a sq bale baler that ole 8 n just might run it, i’ve rode a many hours on a 8n tractor . My uncle has one that i’m tring to talk him out of that,s just been setting around in his back yard. You might just hook that baler up to that old tractor just to see what it would do, there sure made tough& be around from along time.
could a car alternator be driven by the wind instead of the engine?
I looked into this a while back……….and the simple answer is yes. Yes, but it is not an efficient way of generating electricity. Car alternators need to run at HIGH rpm to be effective……. So they are overdriven by at least a 3-1 ratio. Big crank pulley, small alternator pulley……..usually 6,000 to 9,000 rpm operating speed. A better thing to use would be a permanent magnet motor, or generator. Older tractors like the Ubiquitous Ford 8n series usually have one, and alot of pre 60′s GM cars and trucks have one too.
How much does a Ford 9n or 8n tractor Cost ?
In Running condition with and without a front loader. approximately
Which tractor should I buy? Ford 8n, 631, 801?
I just bought 19 acres and I need a tractor to mow it with a bush hog. I need a small tractor so I can trailer it back and forth to my house. Eventually I will buy a new tractor but I need one soon to mow the land. Which small tractor would you buy?
There are conversion kits to give the Ford 9N, 2N, and 8N a live PTO.
Parts for the Ford 8N are easier to get than the 631 and 801, however both the 631 and 801 have higher horsepower and capacity than the 8N.
The Ford 801 has either a gas or diesel 4 cylinder engine, rated at 63.7 engine HP and 44 PTO HP.
The Ford 631 is part of the Ford 601 series that is available in gas or diesel, rated at 48.4 engine HP, and 32 PTO HP.
However the Ford 631 was a variant of the Ford 601 series that did not have a PTO, so unless you are going to employ a secondary motor to provide rotational force for your bush hog, the 631 will not work for this application.
The 801 is likely your best bet for performance and specs, however the 8N is a little cheaper to own and keep up.
What kind of tractor is this?
I know its a ford, sorry this is the only picture i have of it, hoping to get a year and model, thanks!!!
Ford 8N built from 1947-1952 Drawbar horse 21.95 PTO horse 23.24 (there is no way to tell what year this tractor is unless you can get the serial number but it is an 8N. 2Ns and 9Ns were all dark grey not grey with red)
Help! Anybody know anything about old Ford Tractors?
Bought a tractor a couple months ago; it’s a 1947 Ford 8N, it was running fine yesterday and now it sputters out shortly after starting. I cleaned out the air filtration system really good, and still the same. Could it be a fuel line? How to adjust the carb? Also what kind of oil do I put in the motor and what kind of hydraulic oil to use? It’s a tough little tractor was overhauled not long ago so it runs strong just this fuel problem. I need to do some work in my orchard soon. Any ideas much appreciated. Thank you.
It sounds like your problem is fuel related. To know for sure turn the fuel off and take the air duct off that connects to the carb and spray some starting fluid in the carb while cracking, if it wants to run on starting fluid then you know for sure. Make sure fuel is getting to the carb (the line might be clogged from debris in the tank or something) if fuel is getting to the carb then the carb is most likely just dirty and needs a cleaning.

how far apart do you need to set your tires on a 601 ford tractor to run a plow?
Close your tractor all the way in and adjust the plow to your tractor. You want the tip of your plow point to be away from the right wheel the same distance plus one inch from where you tractor tire will be rolling.
Where can i find a front loader for a 49 ford tractor?
Wow, thats a good one. Have you tried Ebay or other like sites? How about checking farm auctions/sales in your area? I’d begin by looking there, if you don’t find one, then perhaps ask around at said sale…maybe someone has one they don’t know what to do with. =)

1939 Ford Tractor???????
This is one of the first tractors that Ford has made is this a collectors addition
No. The Ford 9N was one of the most built tractors in the world. In excellent condition its worth about 3K-3500 with no attachments. I just bought one about 3 months ago for $1000 with a landscape rake and back blade. Its in rough shape(visually) but runs like a dream.
Mine has a PTO.

It is very difficult to write a brief history of the ford tractors N series. The span of years across which these tractors were built covered two world wars and the Great Depression. The development and production of the N Series Ford tractors was only a small part of these massive world events.
Many of the inventions attributed to Henry Ford were allegedly actually the work of others. While Henry Ford did not invent the automobile assembly line, or the tractor, it might be more accurate to say that much of the genius of Henry Ford was the ability to select and sponsor the best ideas.
N Series Ford Tractors
In 1938 Harry Ferguson was working on his tractor and hydraulic system control project in the U.S. for a show with Henry Ford. The new Ford-Ferguson 9N tractor was developed using the best ideas from the engineers at Ford and Ferguson. Model 9N first left the assembly line for model year 1939. All subsequent 9N and 2N tractors were manufactured by Ford, but were marketed and sold under the Ford-Ferguson marque.
The Ford tractors N series with the Ferguson system created new standards for small tractors that were later adopted by almost all tractor manufacturers. The Ferguson System was a significant improvement on the drawbars used in other systems.
For the first time a tractor had a 3 point hitch and a rear power take off. The beauty of the Ferguson 3 point hitch was that it untilised the drag of the towed implement, such as a plough, to increase the overall down force on the tractor’s rear wheels, thus greatly increasing the traction. This solved some of the problems on the previous Ford tractors which could flip over if the plough hit an obstacle.
The new system allowed the Ferguson Ford tractor to be smaller, quieter, safer and more efficient than most other tractors of the time. For the first time a tractor could actually be operated by most women and even children! With the manufacturing methods of Henry Ford’s mass production plant, the new Ford tractors could be built and sold at a much lower price than the competition.
The final model in the N series of Ford Tractors was the 8N which was introduced in 1947. The main changes in this model were the addition of a 4 speed gearbox, leading to an increase in power available to the power take off and changes to the hydraulics system which served the dual purpose of evading the patent conditions on Ferguson’s invention and increased flexibility in working in differing soil types.
